Traditional street markets in Malaga are held on different days of the week in different cities, so you can discover a new place every day. These markets are not just places to shop. They are a stroll among colourful stalls, the aromas of spices and fresh fruit, an introduction to Spanish life and the customs of the locals.
Street markets in Malaga by day of the week
Below you will find a schedule of street markets by day of the week and city in the province of Málaga, so you can plan your trip and not miss the most interesting ones.
Mondays:
On Mondays (except public holidays) in the province of Malaga, the street market is located in Marbella, in the Las Albarizas neighbourhood.
If you are a tourist and plan to travel by rental car, keep in mind that parking can sometimes be difficult here. Bus lovers are in luck — there is a bus stop nearby.
Tuesdays:
Every Tuesday in the province of Málaga you can visit the street markets in Fuengirola and Nerja.
Fuengirola
Every Tuesday, Fuengirola has one of the largest markets in Andalusia. This street market is another of Fuengirola's must-see attractions.
It is located in the fairground (Recinto Ferial Fuengirola), next to Los Boliches station and has over 450 stalls.
Here you can buy fresh fruit and vegetables, various spices, pastries, cheese and sausage specialities. There is also a wide selection of leather goods, bags, textiles, clothes and shoes to suit every taste.
Nerja
Around 200 stalls with a wide range of goods to suit all tastes are set up on Tuesdays in the town of Nerja, in the urbanisation of Almijara.
On this day, tourists and locals gather at this place for different purposes: tourists to stroll around the market and learn about the local Spanish culture, while residents meet here to buy fresh produce and chat over a mug of coffee or something stronger.
And on Sundays, there is a flea market at the same location. This means that it sells second-hand goods as well as vintage and rare items, of which there are quite a few on Sundays.
Wednesdays:
On Wednesdays in the province of Málaga, street markets are open in the following locations: in Huelín neighbourhood, in Estepona, Rincon de la Victoria, La Cala de Mijas.
Malaga, neighbourhood of Huelin
The street market in Málaga operates on Wednesdays and Saturdays in the Huelin neighbourhood on Av de Europa 32. With 170 stalls in a spacious car park area, you can find everything you need, but there is no great variety. But the prices are very good and the vendors are friendly.
Estepona
On Wednesday mornings, vendors lay out their wares in Estepona, on three streets: Slovakia, Poland and Slovenia (these are street names, just in case).
It's not very big - 235 stalls - but here you can buy always fresh food and necessary goods at low prices. And after that, if you have time and desire, take a stroll through the pretty Las Mesas Park, which is very close by.
Rincon de la Victoria
The market is not big, but it's not small either, which is why it's on this list - more than 100 stalls where you can always find, besides fruit and vegetables, groceries, clothes, shoes - and all at prices lower than shop prices!
It is located in a spacious car parking next to a green park - Parque Huerta Julián, where you can also go for a walk after shopping.
La Cala de Mijas
If you are near La Cala de Mijas on Wednesday, you should definitely stop by this market, it is located at the exit of the A7 motorway, Av. de Mare Nostrum.
You can't miss it from the street - you can see the stalls and lots of cars and people with trolleys. Everyone comes to buy fresh fruit and vegetables for the week, and maybe something else. There is quite a large selection of different goods here.
Thursdays:
On Thursdays in Málaga province, markets are located in Ciudad Jardín (Málaga District), Torremolinos and San Pedro de Alcántara.
Ciudad Jardín neighbourhood
On Thursdays, a quiet residential area of Málaga turns into a bustling street market full of fresh produce, textiles, clothes, accessories, etc.
Located on Av. de Jacinto Benavente 22, there are over 120 stalls - not many to be considered a big market, but you can find interesting offers and the prices are more than affordable.
Torremolinos
Every Thursday in Torremolinos, there is quite a large market - over 230 stalls - next to the bullring in the fairgrounds.
The friendly vendors are happy to sell you fresh fruit and vegetables, throw in a free bundle of parsley, make jokes and may even call you the love of their life! Oh those Spanish people!
San Pedro de Alcántara
San Pedro de Alcántara's rather crowded and lively market is located in the upper part of the city on Thursdays from morning to 2pm.
With around 250 stalls, visitors will enjoy a wide selection of fresh produce, clothes, shoes, bags, jewellery and a variety of sundries. The fairgrounds area, on Calle Jorge Guillén.
Fridays:
In fact, there are many markets here on Fridays as well as other days, but that's just the name - vendors come and set up 10-20 stalls, 5 of which are selling fresh fruit and vegetables, the rest are clothes. One such day is Friday. The largest street market is in Benalmadena. This is what we are going to look at.
Benalmadena
More than 300 kiosks with a wide range of goods to suit all tastes start operating on Fridays in Benalmádena, in the Arroyo de la Miel neighbourhood near the former Tivoli Park.
Mornings in Benalmadena are beautiful! If you're here on holiday - start that morning with a stroll through the market, buy yourself some fresh fruit and go sightseeing in Benalmadena.
Saturdays:
On Saturdays in the province of Málaga, markets are located in Marbella and Fuengirola (flea market).
Marbella
The Saturday street market in Marbella is based around the bullring in the Nueva Andalucía neighbourhood of Marbella.
With over 120 stalls, there isn't much variety on offer, but if you're in the area at the time, be sure to stop by and have a look - a visit to a street market always improves the mood.
Fuengirola
This flea market is full of different goods - 400 stalls of both used and not-so-used items.
However, here you can find interesting household items, clothes, accessories, jewellery, but again, they have already been worn by someone, but nevertheless.
If you are not a fan of such markets, you should still know - there are always a lot of people here, and many from different countries. While walking around the market you can hear conversations in different languages, including many in English, German and French.
Locals come here in search of good deals, and tourists come here in search of a special atmosphere.
On Sundays, the Cortijo de Torres flea market in Málaga
This market is very important for the residents of Malaga, and for tourists, because it takes place on Sunday, which is a day off, and you can spend it here chatting with vendors, drinking coffee and strolling through the rows with all sorts of things.
And if you're a little late, you don't have to cook lunch, you can eat here in the café. The Cortijo de Torres Flea Market is located in Málaga's fairgrounds and has over 300 stalls.
