Torrevieja Attractions
The town of Torrevieja is located 50 minutes from Alicante. Its name translates from Spanish as "Old Tower". This settlement is quite young, it was given the status of a city at the beginning of the last century. Before that there were chaotically located houses and cottages of fishermen near the old watchtower, thanks to which Torrevieja got its name. The extraction of salt from the famous salt lagoons helped the maritime Torrevieja to grow from a fishing village into a full-fledged town. And since the 1960s, in addition to this, construction and tourism began to develop here, because Torrevieja and the coastal surroundings have magnificent sandy beaches, not to mention the presence of the Mediterranean Sea and a favourable climate. All this contributes to the increase in the number of tourists in the summer months, and not only. Now you can not only sunbathe on the beach and swim in the Mediterranean Sea.
So what else is interesting about Torrevieja?
Interestingly, every year more and more people from different countries move here to live. There are many British, Russian, Scandinavian, German and other communities in and around this city. Already 30 to 40 % of the population is not Spanish, but expats. And accordingly there are many establishments, shops and restaurants of different countries and cultures. In Torrevieja you can find both beaches and various tourist facilities. And what great markets there are here!
Torre del Moro Tower
The tower that started the construction of the city. Of course, it has been reconstructed many times and no longer has its original appearance, but it looks great, especially as it stands on a hill surrounded by a small, pretty park with a stunning view of the sea.
Catholic Church in Torrevieja
Iglesia de La Inmaculada Concepcion. Located in the centre of Torrevieja, near the beach. The building inside and outside has a very interesting architecture, there is a small square with palm trees and a fountain next to it, where various events are often organised. For example, shortly before Christmas, there is a miniature exhibition of Biblical stories.
Salinas de Torrevieja
One of the main natural treasures of this city. The pink and green lagoons are salt lakes that make Torrevieja one of the largest salt production centres in Europe. In the past, people even bathed in the pink lake for health purposes, the salty water from this lake is very useful for the skin and for the organism in general. But a few years ago, bathing here was banned and even put up signs with a ban. But people still come to see the unusual pink colour of the lake, soak their feet in the salty water and take a couple of photos.
Lagunas de La Mata Natural Park
Parque natural de las Lagunas de La Mata y Torrevieja - a protected area with a green, salty lagoon. Located in La Mata, very close to Torrevieja. An interesting and informative natural park for a walk with children. There is a tower and bird watching points, useful information about birds and entertaining facts. Also in the park there are picnic areas surrounded by trees, where you can often find curious squirrels. It is a very pleasant place. Most people get here by car, there is a large car park, on the other side of which there is another small grove and a recreation area with many picnic tables and a children's playground (Albentosa Park). People often gather here on holidays and weekends, bringing food and drinks, adults chatting and having fun, and children chasing squirrels or playing on the playground.
Park of Nations(Parque de las Naciones)
This is one of the main attractions of Torrevieja. Very beautiful and well-maintained park with a large artificially created lake in the shape of the European continent and flags of European countries. There are fountains, many benches, a large playground for children, the main character of which is a big dragon - slide! Children really like this park, and adults too. Opposite the play area there is a small cafe where you can have a cold drink or ice cream. Peacocks, roosters, ducks and turtle fish swim in the lake. Beauty!!! The park is fenced and is located within the city limits, if you have difficulties with parking, you can leave your car in the large car park of the Abaneras or Carrefour shopping centre, from where the park is only 10 minutes walk away.

Playa del Cura. The central city sandy beach of Torrevieja. It has all the facilities for those who want to sunbathe and swim. For the rest, it is a very fashionable and frequently visited place in the city - a beautiful walking area along the promenade (Paseo Juan Aparicio), which originates in the harbour area of Torrevieja. Be sure to take a walk here and make a beautiful photo with a sculpture of a sad girl (Bella Lola) sitting on a bench, looking at the sea and waiting for her husband; watch the performances of street artists; sit in one of the local restaurants, of which there are many; watch the sunset here, admiring the sun setting over the horizon of the sea; breathe in the sea air; listen to the cries of seagulls, which are so mesmerising! This is a magical place with a wonderful holiday atmosphere!
